Koinonia is operating Basic Education Programme for last 18 years at Gopalgonj and Bagerhat districts in two sub. districts (Tungipara and Mollahat) by the assistance of TEAR Fund UK.

KOINONIA operate 14 tutorial centres in 18 villages for 3 years (2007-2009) offering nursery to class 2 through appointing two teachers (1 Head Teacher and 1 Assistant Teacher) per centre. The total target for last year was 553 students with 40 students per school. Koinonia Basic Education Programme is contributing to the education sector in rural Bangladesh. It has already built self confidence to explore this project of providing education to the children of poor and marginal families. Last year 129 students were successfully completed their 2nd grade from Basic Education Programme. Out of 129 students 61 were girls. On completion of class 2 students are encouraged to admit for their higher education in the nearby Government Primary School.

Koinonia formed School Management Committee (SMC) with local elites for each of the 14 schools. Both the SMCs and Koinonia will jointly run the schools by their contribution. It is noted that already SMC members received motivation training from Koinonia.
