Disaster Preparedness: Capacity building for improved humanitarian response

Koinonia and SoH agreed to develop a project for aiming to strengthen the humanitarian response capacity of Koinonia in terms improving disaster preparedness and to strengthen the resilience of the local population.


1) To react quickly and efficiently in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.

2) To successfully implement humanitarian relief projects.

3) To prepare the local population for future disasters.

The civilian population in disaster-prone countries is thus strengthened in its ability to cope with and overcome crises.

For aiming these objectives Koinoniahasstarted its journey from May 2019. A proposal submitted to NGOAB and got approval on December 2019.

The following Preliminary activities were done which has a few financial costs relate:

Two (02) staffs and one (01) volunteer attended a 3 day long (August 18-20, 2019) SPHERE training organized by Bangladesh Nazarene Mission with the technical help of HEKS/EPER. Through this training the staffs were able to learn the Core Humanitarian Standard and SPHERE Standards.

- Communicated with churches for Volunteer selection and mostly completed from three working region (Dhaka, Kulaura-Moulvibazar and Mollarhat, Bagarhat.)

- Completed schedule and module for Project Management training with consultant. The training will be held on February 2020 at Dhaka and Mollarhat.

- Existing Financial policy has been shared with consultant and draft policy preparation is going on. A MoU was signed with the consultant and the draft financial procurement and logistic policy and other policies will be finalized by April 2020. For this purpose a day long workshop held with senior staffs of the project and head office for financial procurement, logistic policy and anti-corruption Policy development. The session facilitated by the consultant and the Director of Koinonia. Total 12 project leads and accountant attended the workshop.

- Fund raising strategic development work is going on.

-Attended international training workshop on Finance Administration and Risk Management at Karl Kubel Institute for Development Education (KKID), Coimbatore, South-India arranged by BMZ. Two participants from Koinonia attended in the workshop at south India.

- A day long workshop held on Anti-corruption with all Koinonia staffs, held on Kulaura, Moulovibazar on 15thNovember2019.

- The monitoring officer Joined on January 15, 2020 and monitoring officer’s job description were placed.
