The word KOINONIA is of Greek origin which means “solidarity” (fellowship, togetherness). KOINONIA is a non-profit, non-political and non-government voluntary organization.
KOINONIA was formed in 1983 by the National Christian Fellowship of Bangladesh (NCFB) as its caring arm to serve the poor and the marginal people of Bangladesh irrespective of caste, creed and culture.
We envision that all People establish their human rights, live in dignity and harmony as Children of God, being free from poverty, injustice and discrimination.
The Mission of KOINONIA is to enhance capacity and opportunity of the poor, vulnerable people, communities and Churches through their initiatives and support of appropriate development services; establish their self-governed community-based institutions and networks, do advocacy for influencing policies and decisions affecting their lives and livelihoods.
a) In 1989, KOINONIA was registered with the Social Services Department (SSD), Dhaka Division, Dhaka, having Registration Number Dha-02320 dated 25 September 1989.
b) In 1990, KOINONIA was registered with NGO Affairs Bureau, Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Dhaka, having Registration Number FDRO No. 400 dated 1 November 1990..
KOINONIA is a member of the ADAB (Association of Development Agencies in Bangladesh), a 240-member coordinating agency of NGOs in Bangladesh.
